We got though Reading OK in the early hours the morning and got on a good mooring at " The Cunning Man" pub, just S of Calcot. The river is now just  a like a big stream, unlike the mighty Thames. - It is somewhere between the River Ribble and the Lancashire Calder for flow, but like the Lancaster Canal in width, and the depth seems pretty good so far, thankfully.

The locks and the weirs of the Kennet are pretty challenging with the cross - currents etc so its yet another memorable experience for us and the barge.

No problem with the width of locks, so long as all the gates will open fully. The width of most of them meant we had to lift the fenders on one side to get in.

Jeff and Pete crewed to help me get the boat off the tidal section whilst Chris went home on the train to be available for Carolyn, who was expecting. We covered this stretch in good time, then sheeted over the wheelhouse area and left the boat to its own devices
