We moored near Woodhall Spa which was the home of the Dambuster Squadron during WWII. My father was a pattern and tool maker at Avro's during the war and
he was involved with building the special doors for the bouncing bombs and the hydraulic systems for the Lancasters. Our current mooring is next to the disused railway which would have carried the tons of
munitions brought into the area for export? to Germany - what a waste!
The River Witham, which will take us to the sea in a week or so, is much more pleasant than we imagined. It is very wide,
reasonably deep and weed - free. There are only occasional floating moorings, but the adjoining villages are very pretty and well loved. here are a couple of pictures of a wooden chapel at Southrey:
