We got through Lincoln in the early hours of Sunday morning to avoid a performance in front of a big audience in case we got stuck. As it happens, there was about 8" of clearance above the cabin top, so quite a bit bigger than Foulridge Tunnel, even though it looked tighter from the bank.

We spent a long time in Lincoln because we had a good mooring near the city centre and were overawed by the cathedral which we visited about 5 times, including a "Roof Tour", and a  "Tower tour".

We moored near Woodhall Spa which was the home of the Dambuster Squadron during WWII. My father was a pattern and tool maker at Avro's during the war and  he was involved with building the special doors for the bouncing bombs and the hydraulic systems for the Lancasters. Our current mooring is next to the disused railway which would have carried the tons of munitions brought into the area for export?  to Germany - what a waste!

The River Witham, which will take us to the sea in a week or so, is much more pleasant than we imagined. It is very wide, reasonably deep and weed - free. There are only occasional floating moorings, but the adjoining villages are very pretty and well loved. here are a couple of pictures of a wooden chapel at Southrey:

Like SE Yorks, this whole area could be below sea level in the wrong conditions and depends entirely on its drainage system which can discharge into the Witham if required.
