The concrete - lined part - Toggenberg is only just a fit when the water is low in the pound.
The Foulridge end of the tunnel was built by forming a deep cutting with timber shoring , then building the tunnel in stone before backfilling it all again. All done by pick and shovel, no steam power involved!
