River Ouse into York
We made rather a dramatic entrance onto the River Ouse off the Selby Canal. Following advice from a fellow boater "don't worry about steering round onto the river, the flow and the tide will take
you" we ended up on the opposite bank in the trees. “Trust your own judgement”.
Once through Naburn lock the waters calmed and we had a lovely trip up to York. Whilst there we managed a visit to the National Railway
Museum, Yorvick cente, a walk round the walls, choral evensong at York Minster, shopping in the Shambles, street entertainment and a beer in a micro-bewery.
The return journey back to Selby was a much calmer affair,
mainly due to neap tides. We shared the waterways with a cafe boat with tables on its roof, water skiiers, any number of "Gin Palaces" and also some fine Dutch barges.
